So, after spying Sam and Joseph at The Uni of Manchester, and seeing how well their styles worked alongside each other (unintentional apparently; see first HotVimto blog post for evidence!), we wanted to focus in on their individual styles.

Sam told us that since moving to Manchester from London she feels like she can dress a lot more freely in terms of her own sense of style and comfort.

“Although London has lots of different sub-cultures and you see that through fashion there, Manchester is a lot less conservative and this means that I feel more comfortable here dressing how I want”.

Joseph said that the price difference between here and London was the main influence on his style;

” It’s much easier to find clothes that I like here, and thats because of the price. London is EXPENSIVE! But also, I feel that sometimes the pressure to dress to your individuality in the most extreme way possible in London is a bit too much. I like that I can so easily dress in my favourite Brands here.”

“Paintings influence the clothing I wear, especially Basquiat and his expressionist imagery. Autumn/Winter is my favourite season as I like to layer up the different patterns.”

All Saints Park is bustling with students on a day to day basis, all with their own individual style, but H caught our eye with her mix of patterns that were both subtle and striking at once. Through studying fine art, her style changed to one that imitated the style of her favourite artists. She was able to create this mixture of patterns by shopping in charity shops, which is lucky, as she is a student who can apparently only afford “the £1 shop at the top of Affleck’s Palace”.

“We’re price led when shopping, both on the hight street and in vintage stores, due to being students. Manchester, for us, is a little more edgy in its style, in comparison to London, which is something we enjoy.”

Wandering around campus grounds we met Joseph and Sam, a couple studying at the University of Manchester, on their lunch break. After speaking to them it became clear that, despite their trendy style, they dressed for practicality over aesthetics.
